Darien High School

The Town of Darien Parks &amp; Recreation Department will host its annual Fireworks Spectacular on Friday, July 10, at Darien High School. There is a rain date of July 11.
The event will feature face painting, courtyard games, food trucks, a performance by the Darien Community Band and a synchronized fireworks display. Food vendors are scheduled to include Supreme Poutine, Antonio's Pizza, Mister Softee, Fryborg and Kona Ice.
Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets, chairs and picnic dinners. Face painting by Alicia and novelty glow items from Parade of Novelties will also be available.
Vehicle access to the event will be available only through the Noroton Avenue entrance. Gates to this entrance only will open at 6:30 p.m. and close promptly at 9 p.m. Fireworks are expected to begin at approximately 9:15 p.m.
Resident parking passes cost $30 per vehicle, with a limit of one pass per household. <a href="https://anc.apm.activecommunities.com/darienparksandrec/activity/search/detail/8224?onlineSiteId=0&amp;from_original_cui=true" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Passes go on sale June 15 at 10 a.m.</a> and will be available through July 7 or until sold out. Passes can also be purchased in person through the Darien Parks &amp; Recreation Department.&nbsp;
Parking passes will need to be picked up in person at the Parks &amp; Recreation Department at Town Hall starting on June 22 and must be picked up by July 7.
Walk-ins to the fireworks are welcome, and nonresidents may attend for free, though on-site parking will not be available.

Joe Jackson, born in 1954 in Burton-on-Trent and raised in Portsmouth, began his music career early, playing his first paid gig at 16. After earning a scholarship to the Royal Academy of Music, he formed the Joe Jackson Band in London and was signed by A&amp;M Records in 1978, leading to his debut album Look Sharp! (1979). Success followed quickly with I’m the Man and Beat Crazy, before Jackson shifted gears with the swing-inspired Jumpin’ Jive (1981) and the critically acclaimed Night and Day (1982), which became his biggest commercial success. Throughout the 1980s and early ’90s, he explored diverse musical directions — from the horn-driven Body and Soul to the live-recorded Big World and the ambitious Blaze of Glory — while composing film scores and collaborating with other artists.

The artists’ reception and dance performance is scheduled for Thursday, July 16th from 5 – 7 pm. American Ballroom dance by Jyoti Desai and Elmar Schmidt followed by Argentine Tango by Jyoti Desai and Gem Duras. The public is invited to meet the artist and view the dance performances.</td>

 <td>After returning to painting in recent years, Ms. Desai has embraced a more intuitive and organic approach to abstraction. Her work combines bold, high-contrast compositions with vibrant color inspired by Indian textiles and visual traditions. Through layering, scraping, and reworking the surface, she creates paintings that reveal traces of their own making, allowing history, accident, and intention to coexist.
A lifelong passion for dancing has become central to her studio practice. The rhythm, balance, improvisation, and physical responsiveness required in dance directly inform her approach to paint. Sweeping gestures, shifts in tempo, and moments of pause echo the movements of the body in motion. Rather than illustrating dance, the paintings translate its energy and dynamism into visual form. By working between structure and spontaneity, control and release, she creates abstract paintings that are rooted in movement, color, and the physical experience of making.
The Mayor’s Gallery is located on the 10th floor of Stamford’s Government Center. The City of Stamford which gives area artists an opportunity to exhibit their work in this space. There are six exhibitions annually featuring emerging and professional artists.
