Obituary: Florence DeLuca, 98, Of Stamford

Florence possessed a beautiful spirit, and found great comfort in her faith.

Florence P. DeLuca, a Stamford resident of 98 years, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family. She was the fifth child born to Ralph and Mary (Andre) Altomare.

Born May 29, 1924 in Stamford, CT, Florence attended Julia Stark Elementary School where she sang in the choir and was co-captain of the girls' softball team.

After graduating Stamford High School - Class of 1942, she studied at Shorts Secretarial School, and went on to work for Dr. Stone, a prominent dermatologist on Glenbrook Road.

She met the love of her life, Albert DeLuca, in 1940 and soon married, raising three children.

Her family was the center of her world, and Florence devoted her life to nurturing her children and grandchildren. She will always be remembered for her ability to find the perfect words of wisdom suited to instruct, comfort and support them all.

Florence was the family historian, who would have a story for every situation, filled with detail.

She enjoyed working in her garden, baking, and cooking to entertain all of her family and friends.

Along with her husband, Florence was actively involved for many years with St. Cecilia's Parish, participating with its relocation from Weed Hill Avenue and serving on the Altar Rosary Society for over seven years.

Florence possessed a beautiful spirit, and found great comfort in her faith, which sustained her through life's difficulties and added to life's joy.

Florence was preceded in death by her loving husband Albert and her beloved son Charles. Also predeceased by her sisters Vera, Amelia and Joan as well as her brothers Ralph and Rex Altomare.
Florence is survived by her loving son Robert (Janet), her daughter Mary Anne, and her daughter-in-law Debbie DeLuca, as well as five grandchildren; Jenna, Anthony, Jennifer, Lea, and Alison and blessed with seven great-grandchildren.

She will be forever loved and missed.

A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Cecilia's Church in Stamford, 1184 Newfield Avenue on Saturday January 7th 2023 at 10:30AM. A private burial will follow. There will be no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Florence name to St. Jude Children Hospital.
