Discover the Art of Painting on the Scenic Grounds of Enders Island!
Immerse yourself in a day of creativity and learning amidst the stunning gardens, seascapes, and architecture of Enders Island.
The day begins with a demonstration where you will explore key techniques for creating compelling compositions, mastering painting applications, and progressing from the initial block-in to a completed work. Under the expert guidance of our talented instructor, Dan DeLouise, you will spend the afternoon receiving personalized instruction. Together, you will focus on capturing the dynamic interplay of “light and shadow” while avoiding the common challenge of “chasing the light” as it shifts.
This workshop is open to artists of all skill levels, making it a wonderful opportunity to grow your artistic practice.
You can start the day with Mass in the Chapel at 9 AM. The workshop itself begins at 10 AM in the Sacred Art Studio. The day will conclude at approximately 4 PM. A boxed lunch is provided.

Immerse yourself in a day of creativity and learning...

This week-long workshop will include five consecutive days of studio time. Check-in begins Sunday night at 4:30 PM, followed by dinner at 5:30 PM for students and instructors. Dinner will be followed by a workshop introduction and conference, ending at 9:00 PM. Hands-on instruction begins early Monday morning, and the last meal will be lunch on Friday. The art studio will be available on Friday afternoon to complete your icon.
&nbsp;To celebrate the 2026 jubilee year commemorating the 800th anniversary of the passing of St Francis of Assisi, the September Essentials of Iconography Workshop focuses on a contemporary prototype of St Francis, composed from art historical images. The model emphasizes the immediacy of the saint’s face and his modesty.As we open up the icon of St. Francis’ face with paint, each day’s session will be accompanied by morning and afternoon readings from the saint’s own writings and the earliest biographies by Thomas of Celano, St Bonaventure and others.We will work with the materials and technique of historical iconography - egg tempera and natural earth pigments, painted onto a 9” x 12” wood panel prepared with linen and true artists gesso. The process of painting, or “writing” the icon, parallels its vision of a transfigured reality; beginning with deepest colors, we illuminate the real form of the saint's body with subsequent layers of lighter colors. We will explore how the icon’s use of symbols, inverse perspective, color, and internal sense of order make it a singular form of religious art.&nbsp; It expresses what Christians believe is reality - a world of matter filled with spirit.Because of time constraints, the background of the icon will be painted; technical emphasis will be on calligraphic line work to construct a drawing, color mixing, and blending tones to create lighter seamless passages of light. All materials and tools needed to make on icon are included.
Students attending the workshop should arrive with basic brush skills, a familiarity with the color wheel, and experience mixing colors.

<table><tbody><tr><td>LOVE Where You Read 2026: America 250 — Freedom to Read
As America commemorates its 250th anniversary, we invite artists ages 15 and up to celebrate one of our nation's most enduring freedoms: the freedom to read.
The LOVE Where You Read Art Contest challenges students and local artists to design an original poster that explores the theme "America 250: Freedom to Read." Libraries have long served as places where people can discover new ideas, learn from different perspectives, and access information freely. This year's contest asks artists to reflect on the role of reading, learning, and libraries in a free society. 
Your artwork might explore questions such as:
<ul><li>What does the freedom to read mean to you?</li><li>How do libraries help strengthen our communities and democracy?</li><li>How has access to books, information, and ideas shaped America over the past 250 years?</li><li>What role will reading and lifelong learning play in America's future? </li></ul>
Artists are encouraged to create inspiring, original designs that celebrate both the nation's 250th anniversary and the library as a place of opportunity, curiosity, and freedom. Designs must be two-dimensional and no larger than 11.5"x17.5". Submissions will be accepted starting September 1 through September 25. The winner and artists selected for the exhibit will be contacted by September 30. Winner will receive $250! No entry fee required.

The 44th Annual WICC Surfside Hotel <a href="https://www.bluefishtournament.com/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">Greatest Bluefish Tournament on Earth</a> returns to Long Island Sound on Saturday, August 29, with fishing officially beginning at 12:01 a.m. Anglers from Connecticut and New York will compete for bragging rights—and a $25,000 grand prize awarded to the tournament's largest bluefish.
The weekend-long tournament features more than $40,000 in total cash prizes, including:
<ul>
 <li>1st Place: $25,000</li>
 <li>2nd Place: $7,500</li>
 <li>3rd Place: $2,500</li>
 <li>Smaller cash prizes awarded through 20th Place</li>
 <li>Port Prizes awarded for the heaviest bluefish weighed at each official Connecticut and New York weigh station (see below for complete list of weigh stations)</li>
</ul>
Young anglers, 17 and under, will also have the chance to win big. The tournament will award a $1,000 cash prize to the largest bluefish caught by a youth angler. Second and third place youth winners will receive $100 gift cards.
Anglers may register online at <a href="https://www.bluefishtournament.com" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">www.bluefishtournament.com</a>&nbsp;or in person at any official tournament registration location throughout Connecticut and New York/Long Island.

Throughout the tournament weekend, WICC, 99.1 PLR, STAR 99.9, and WEBE108 will provide hourly leaderboard updates and tournament results.

Deans Mill Farm 

Built in the mid-1700s as a functioning livestock farm, Deans Mill Farm has gone through an evolution in recent decades. A full renovation of the historic buildings and rejuvenation of the surrounding 70+ acres has made the property into the incredible venue it is today. Deans Mill Farm now operates primarily as a private event space and five-room bed and breakfast tucked down a private road in Stonington, Connecticut. It shares its property with Dragonfly Equestrian Center and is home to dozens of horses. On the property lies meadows, hiking trails, beautiful fields and Dragonfly Disc Golf.
