STONINGTON, CT— Star Students are found in classrooms, on concert and theater stages and at debate lecterns, and out in the community doing good things to make life better for all of us.

Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize Star Students, and we’re working to tell the stories of these outstanding kids to their neighbors.

This submission comes from Richard who nominated Kathe of Stonington.

Why do you believe the star local student should be recognized?

Being a military child is beyond difficult. Kathe has traveled the entire world, having spent the majority of years in school in Okinawa, Japan, and San Antonio, Texas, before finally settling back in Stonington, her hometown.

What's one thing you want everyone to know about the star local student?

Kathe's international experiences taught Kathe to appreciate diversity and work with people across many backgrounds, which has made her a popular employee to the residents of Stone Ridge, where she works.

Being a military child brings many hardships, having lost touch with best friends multiple times along the way and constantly being the new kid. Her strength keeps her successful in her academic pursuits and a valued member of the Stonington Community Rowing program and Stonington Crew Team. Kathe's path hasn't been linear, but her positive attitude and diligence have. Her smile is infectious, her attitude is upbeat, and so many others are proud of her.

Congratulations on your achievements, and all of our best wishes to you in the future, Kathe!
