Freedom Truck Tour To Bring Mobile Museum To Suffield

SUFFIELD, CT — A traveling museum tied to America’s 250th anniversary celebration is making a stop in Suffield next week.

The Freedom 250 Mobile Museum, known as a “Freedom Truck,” will be open June 5-7 at Landry-Sic Post 9544, Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States, at 972 Sheldon St. in West Suffield.

The exhibit is designed for all ages and uses interactive technology, multimedia storytelling and hands-on displays to highlight America’s founding, major chapters in U.S. history and the innovation that continues to shape the country, according to a release from the VFW post.

The mobile museum is part of the broader Freedom 250 effort connected to the semiquincentennial celebration. Organizers said the goal is to bring the museum directly to schools, civic spaces and public venues rather than requiring families to travel to Washington, D.C.

Hosting the truck fits with the VFW’s mission of promoting patriotism, honoring military service and supporting communities, according to the release.

“America's 250th anniversary is a moment to reflect on where we've been and inspire the next generation about America's glowing future,” Bill Moryto, commander of Landry-Sic Post 9544, said in the release. “We are proud to welcome the Freedom 250 Truck to Landry-Sic Post 9544, Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States in Suffield, CT.”

Moryto said bringing the exhibit to Suffield will make the nation’s history “accessible, engaging, and a memorable experience” for families across New England.

The exhibit will be open from noon to 7 p.m. June 5 and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 6 and 7.
