Suffield Officials Urge Residents To Stay Home After Major Snowstorm
Officials say heavy snow prompted school closures, canceled meetings, and delayed trash pickup.
SUFFIELD, CT — A major winter storm settling over northern Connecticut prompted widespread closures and service disruptions in Suffield on Monday.
Police said the storm brought high hourly snowfall rates, with snowfall totals ranging from 12 to 18 inches. Officials urged residents to remain home and avoid travel whenever possible, noting that reduced traffic allows emergency responders and snowplow crews to operate more safely and efficiently.
Suffield Public Schools will be closed Monday, Jan. 26, due to inclement weather, according to district officials. The regular meeting of the Suffield Board of Education scheduled for Monday night has also been canceled.

Town officials announced that all non-essential town buildings will be closed Monday. Trash collection will not take place; residents are asked to place barrels out assuming a one-day delay in pickup.
Officials also reminded residents that the Suffield Senior Center is available as a warming center during normal business hours. Anyone who requires assistance after hours is asked to contact the Suffield Police Dispatch Center at 860-668-3870.

Police said all first responders are fully staffed and ready to respond to emergencies, but emphasized that staying off roadways helps protect plow operators and allows crews to keep streets passable as the storm continues.
