Opening Reception ~ "A Connecticut History" and HVAA’s 93rd Annual Juried Exhibition

This summer in celebration of the United States’ 250^th birthday, the Lyme Art Association is having a special art show, titled A Connecticut History, which honors, questions, and illuminates the distinguished stories, people and places that continue to shape Connecticut’s identity. Show is on view June 5-July 17. 

A Connecticut History consists of landscapes, portraits, still lifes, and sculpture related to the history and identity of Connecticut. It includes traditional & historical scenes, contemporary reinterpretations, plus conceptual approaches to depicting the state’s people, places and stories in order to create a show that honors tradition, reflects change, and offers fresh and illuminating perspectives on what defines and shapes Connecticut’s identity.  

Running concurrently is the Hudson Valley Art Association (HVAA)’s 93rd Annual Juried Exhibition. This show aims to preserve and encourage the knowledge, craftsmanship and respect for form, color and design, which are distinguishing elements in fine art painting and sculpture. HVAA’s annual exhibition at LAA includes oils, aqua media, pastels, graphics, and sculpture. 

Lastly, come appreciate the creativity of young artists, ages 5-18, in My Town. Inspired by Connecticut’s rich history, My Town encourages young artists to explore what makes their community unique by depicting its people, places and culture, through artwork that is realistic, imaginative, or personal. My Town’s awards ceremony is June 20 at 11 am. June 20 is also Family Day at LAA, which features fun art activities for all ages, and live music performed by Kipp Sturgeon, and the Wandering Fiddlers. 

All shows are on view June 5-July 17. Opening reception for A Connecticut History and HVAA’s exhibit is Saturday, June 13 from 5-7pm. 

Founded in 1914 by the American Impressionists, the Lyme Art Association continues the tradition of exhibiting and selling representational artwork, as well as offering art instruction, lectures, and other community programs. It is located at 90 Lyme Street in Old Lyme, CT, in an iconic 1921 building designed by renowned architect Charles Adams Platt and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
