TOLLAND, CT β€” An alert passenger managed to grab the steering wheel of a vehicle was it was veering off Interstate 84 off Saturday and prevented a crash for becoming a lot worse, state police said.

According to a crash report, at 7:51 p.m., a 2017 GMC Acadia was heading east on I-84. Driving was a 54-year-old woman from Fayetteville, NC. Also aboard were a 59-year-old woman in the front right seat, a 25-year-old man in the second row left -hand seat and a 53-year-old man in the second row, right-hand seat, according to a crash report.

As the Acadia approached the Exit 69 interchange in the left lane it suddenly veered to the left, according to a crash report.

The front seat passenger grabbed the steering wheel and moved it to the right, according to a crash report.

The vehicle then crossed over the center and right lanes and hit a directional post on the right shoulder, according to a crash report. The Acadia suffered minor damage and made its way to the nearby rest stop, where it was parked, according to a crash report.
