Man Charged With Attempted Murder: Trumbull Police

TRUMBULL, CT — A Bridgeport man was arrested in Trumbull and charged with criminal attempt at murder Tuesday afternoon, according to the Trumbull Police Department.

In a news release Wednesday, Police Lt. Brian Falkenstein said officers were called to a Palomino Pass home after receiving a 911 call from a person screaming that she needed help.

Dispatchers could hear a physical altercation taking place in the background, Falkenstein said.

When officers entered the home, they found a woman who was seriously injured, as well as Ronald Champlin, 53, of Bridgeport, who remained at the residence, Falkenstein said.

According to Falkenstein, an investigation indicated Champlin "had continually threatened and physically abused" the woman for approximately two days.

Falkenstein also said the woman had serious injuries to her face, body and extremities.

Trumbull EMS took the woman to Bridgeport Hospital for various injuries and Champlin was taken to Saint Vincent's Hospital for a laceration to his hand, Falkenstein said.

Champlin is being held on a $2 million bond pending an arraignment scheduled for Wednesday, according to Falkenstein.

Falkenstein also noted police were continuing to investigate the incident.
