Trumbull Updates Hours For Town Pools

TRUMBULL, CT — The town has provided updated summer 2022 hours for Beach Memorial Pool and Tashua Pool in Trumbull.

In a news release, town officials noted they have heard many requests from residents to reinstate some evening hours at the two pools.

Traditionally, preseason hours at Beach Memorial Pool have been 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. daily starting Memorial Day weekend due to the public schools still being in session. Once the town is able to staff accordingly, they expand hours.

Due to the maximum occupancy, Tashua Pool is closed to the general public during morning swim lessons and playground camp during this time. At the end of the summer, when colleges and private schools resume, we limit the hours of operation based on staff availability.

"With the nationwide lifeguard shortage, we had difficulty attracting a sufficient number of lifeguards to staff our pools," the website reads. "Accordingly, in order to make ourselves competitive in the 2022 recruitment process, we decided to increase the rate of pay offered, which in turn required a reduction in opening hours of the pools in order to stay within budget."

According to town officials, the hours that were removed from the pool schedules reflect the times of lowest attendance in previous years per data collected by the gate monitors.

The town extracted samplings from 2018, 2019, and 2021 to get a valid representation of the community’s actual utilization. Any adjustments that were made for the 2022 schedule were those that would have the least impact to Trumbull's swimming community, officials said.

"That being said, in recent days the public has asked to reinstate some evening hours," the website reads. "Working with the first selectman's office to make the necessary adjustments to our budget, we are able to add additional hours, complying with industry standards of staffing."

Town officials noted they do not anticipate the ability to add any additional evening hours other than the hours below from June 27 through August 12. The end of season hours will again be adjusted in early August and be based on remaining lifeguard staffing availability.

Beach Memorial Pool:

• Monday: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
• Tuesday: 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
• Wednesday: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. (adaptive swim 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.)
• Thursday: 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
• Friday: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
• Saturday: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
• Sunday: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Tashua Pool:

• Monday: 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.
• Tuesday: 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.
• Wednesday: 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.
• Thursday: 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.
• Friday: 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.
• Saturday: 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.
• Sunday: 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.
