Missing $22K In PTO Funds Prompts Investigation In Wallingford

An investigation has been launched after an elementary school PTO in Wallingford found that $22,000 of its funds are unaccounted for.

WALLINGFORD, CT — An investigation has been launched after an elementary school Parent Teacher Organization in Wallingford found that $22,000 of its funds are currently unaccounted for, according to officials.

The Highland Yalesville Elementary School PTO notified the Highland and Mary G. Fritz elementary schools’ community in a letter on Wednesday that a recent review of the PTO’s financial records identified “discrepancies” in the organization’s accounts.

Based on the available information, officials said in the letter that “approximately $22,000 in PTO funds cannot be accounted for.”

“In accordance with our responsibilities, the Executive Board engaged in a review of the records and has provided the relevant documentation to local law enforcement,” which is conducting an investigation, the PTO wrote in the letter. “Because the matter is under active investigation, we are unable to discuss specific details, speculate about responsibility, or answer questions regarding individuals involved.

“We are committed to cooperating fully with authorities and will provide updates to the membership as appropriate and as permitted by the investigation process.”
