She Is ‘Just A Delight’: Wallingford Star Student

WALLINGFORD, CT — Star Students are found in classrooms, on concert and theater stages and at debate lecterns, and out in the community doing good things to make life better for all of us.

Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize Star Students, and we’re working to tell the stories of these outstanding kids to their neighbors.

This submission comes from Rosina, who nominated first-grader Lena of Wallingford.

Why do you believe the star local student should be recognized?

Lena is just a delight. She is an excellent student who takes learning so seriously and enjoys it so much that she cheers when she gets homework. She delights in showing off her school work at home after each school day, especially what she is learning in enrichment.

In the classroom, I have witnessed her going out of her way to be kind and patient with other students to help them with tasks at hand - and this was not just because I was there helping; teachers' comments on her report cards have consistently talked about this attribute, from Pre-K to now. Lena volunteers for K-Kids and with each donation one time is not enough; we'll be at the store and she asks "are they still collecting for ______? Because I see something I want to get." Lena has a compliment for almost everyone, mostly that they or something they are wearing is "beautiful"; all she sees is people's beauty.

She has been dancing since she was three - tap, ballet, jazz and now hip hop - and puts her all into every single class and stage performance. She loves learning, no matter where, and will also happily show off the new dance moves she has learned, or dance terms, or things she has learned from anywhere in the world and tell us the sources.

In her downtime - no matter how short - you will find her reading, from picture books to chapter books. Lena is thoughtful, kind, generous and fun.
