Wallingford Man Killed By Falling Rocks At Seymour Quarry: Police

SEYMOUR, CT — A 41-year-old worker was killed Monday after several loose rocks fell from a cliff at a Seymour quarry, according to police.

Police responded around 10:45 a.m. to a reported construction accident at Haynes Quarry, 600 Derby Ave., according to a news release from Police Chief John Bucherati.

First responders found the Wallingford man unresponsive and suffering from severe injuries. Despite resuscitation efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

A preliminary investigation found the man had been operating heavy machinery near the base of the rock quarry when several loose rocks fell from the cliff and fatally injured him, according to police.

There was no blasting occurring at the quarry at the time of the incident, police said.

The victim's identity was not immediately released.

The Seymour Police Department, Connecticut State Police Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit, Seymour Fire Marshal and Connecticut Occupational Safety and Health Administration are investigating the incident.
