Coyote Wanders Into Home's Basement, Waterford-East Lyme Animal Control Says

WATERFORD-EAST LYME, CT — A coyote wandered into a home's basement that was being aired out after flooding recently.

Waterford East Lyme Animal Control posted the following on Facebook along with a photo of the coyote lying on the basement floor:

"This coyote found his way into somebody’s basement and had a hard time figuring out how to get back out. Thankfully after checking on him to make sure he was acting normally, he wandered out later that evening. Just a heads up, if you decide to air out/dry out your basement after water gets in, it may be best just to use fans to dry it."

In Fairfield, there were reports last month of coyotes attacking dogs. Officials advised that residents not approach, follow, corner or attempt to interact with the coyote. Outdoor food sources, including pet food and unsecured garbage, should be removed, and residents should not intentionally feed coyotes or other wildlife.
