Person Hospitalized, Pet Dies In Waterford Blaze, Fire Officials Say

Firefighters responded to the call at a Waterford home Saturday evening.

WATERFORD, CT — One person was hospitalized and a cat died in a fire in Waterford on Saturday evening, according to the Waterford Professional Firefighters Association Local 4629.

Firefighters responded to the call at 5:32 p.m. reporting a fire at a home on Colonial Drive.

Crews arrived a couple of minutes later and found heavy smoke coming from the building and a fire in the basement.

Everyone was already out of the home when firefighters arrived.

A resident was taken to the hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation. A cat perished in the blaze, fire officials said.

The Waterford Fire Marshal's Office is investigating.

Mutual aid was provided by several other area fire departments.
