Hartford Man, Middletown Man Charged With Stolen Vehicke/Gun Crimes In West Hartford: Police

West Hartford PD said a license plate reader alert led detectives to a stolen BMW and an allegedly illegal firearm.

WEST HARTFORD, CT — Two men were arrested Thursday after an automated license plate reader alerted West Hartford police to a stolen BMW on New Park Avenue, police said.

Officers received the Automated License Plate Reader, or ALPR, alert on Oct. 1 for a stolen BMW M6 traveling on New Park Avenue, according to a news release from the West Hartford Police Department.

Detectives located the BMW a short time later at 510 New Park Ave., police said.

Investigators determined the stolen vehicle had been traveling with a second vehicle, which was found parked with the BMW at the same location.

Police identified the driver of the stolen BMW as Obrien Watson, 30, of Middletown. He was taken into custody without incident.

Watson was charged with larceny of a motor vehicle and second-degree larceny, according to police.

He was held on a $50,000 surety bond and was scheduled to appear Friday, Oct. 2, in Hartford Superior Court.

Police identified the driver of the second vehicle as Romario Rose, 32, of Hartford.

Police said Rose was found with an illegal firearm on his person and was also taken into custody without incident.

Rose was charged with carrying a pistol without a permit, illegal possession of an assault weapon, and criminal possession of a pistol or revolver, according to the release.

He was held on a $500,000 bond and was also scheduled to appear Friday in Hartford Superior Court.
