FCMA Names State Rep. Anne Hughes 2026 Legislator of the Year
Fairfield County Medical Association will honor Hughes at its Annual Fall Physician Reception & Awards Ceremony Oct. 8 at The Patterson Club
The Fairfield County Medical Association (FCMA) has named State Representative Anne Hughes its 2026 Legislator of the Year, recognizing her commitment to health care, human services and improving access to care for Connecticut residents.
Hughes represents Connecticut’s 135th House District, which includes Easton, Weston and Redding. She serves on the General Assembly’s Human Services Committee, which considers legislation involving Medicaid and other health and human services programs, and co-chairs the Complex Care Committee of the Medical Assistance Program Oversight Council (MAPOC).
A Licensed Master Social Worker, Hughes brings her professional background in social work and human services to her work in the legislature, with a particular focus on issues affecting older adults, individuals with complex health needs and families seeking access to essential services.

“Representative Hughes understands that health care policy ultimately affects real people — patients, families, physicians and the communities they serve,” said John Brannelly, MPH, executive director of the Fairfield County Medical Association. “Her professional experience in social work, combined with her leadership on the Human Services Committee and MAPOC, gives her an important perspective on the challenges facing Connecticut’s health care system. FCMA is pleased to recognize her commitment to improving access to care and supporting the health and well-being of the people of our state.”
Hughes will receive the award during FCMA’s 2026 Annual Fall Physician Reception & Awards Ceremony on Thursday, Oct. 8, at The Patterson Club, 1118 Cross Highway in Fairfield.

The annual event brings together physicians and health care leaders from throughout Fairfield County to recognize individuals who have made significant contributions to medicine, health care and the community. In addition to honoring Hughes, FCMA will recognize Fairfield County physicians for their contributions to the profession and present scholarships to area medical students.
The Fairfield County Medical Association represents physicians across specialties and practice settings throughout Fairfield County and works to support the medical profession through advocacy, education, professional programs and engagement with policymakers and the broader health care community.
