Longtime Weston Police Commissioner Dies

WESTON, CT — Elizabeth "Beth" Baumgart Gralnick, a longtime Weston Police commissioner who spent decades serving the town, has died. She was 83.

Gralnick died peacefully Tuesday, July 28, after a brief illness, according to her obituary.

The Weston Police Department announced her passing this week, remembering Gralnick for her years of dedication to the department and the community.

"Beth dedicated many years of service to the Town of Weston as a member of the Board of Police Commissioners," the department said in a statement. "Throughout her tenure, she demonstrated an unwavering commitment to public service and to the safety and well-being of our community."

Born in Manhattan on Dec. 15, 1942, Gralnick graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a bachelor's degree and began her career as a producer at CBS, according to her obituary. She married Jeffrey C. Gralnick in 1969, and the couple moved to Weston in 1973.

After settling in Weston, Gralnick became deeply involved in the community. She supported Weston High School athletics, served on the Weston Democratic Town Committee and was elected to the Weston Police Commission in 1989. She went on to serve multiple terms as both commissioner and chair over the following decades.

Police said her thoughtful leadership, professionalism and steady support were appreciated by generations of officers.

"Her legacy will live on through the positive impact she made on our department and the Town of Weston," the department said. "She will be remembered with gratitude, respect, and admiration."

Gralnick is survived by her children, Robert Howard Gralnick and Kate Surber, her grandson, Adam Gralnick, and her niece, Sarah Baumgart. She was predeceased by her husband, Jeffrey, and her brother, Richard Baumgart.

Funeral services will be private. Her family asked that memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society in lieu of flowers.
