You get home after a long day and collapse on your bed. And suddenly, the idea of staying there for the next six hours sounds pretty appealing.

While a little downtime can help you recharge, spending an entire day binge-watching Netflix or scrolling mindlessly on Instagram can leave you feeling even more tired and disconnected than when you started.

“Rest is incredibly important, and there’s nothing wrong with taking time to recharge,” says Suelen DeOliveira, APRN, with Hartford HealthCare Medical Group in Norwalk. “The challenge is that bed rotting doesn’t provide the physical or mental benefits that true restoration offers.”
