Flood Watch In Effect In Parts Of CT: Officials

CONNECTICUT — A Flood Watch is in effect in Madison, and other parts of the state, until Tuesday afternoon, according to officials.

"A prolonged period of showers and thunderstorms are expected in our area, and could accumulate a total of 3”-5” of rain over the next 36 hours," officials wrote in a statement on Sunday. "Some of the storms moving through may contain rainfall rates up to 2.5” per hour."

The risk of flash floods rose Monday throughout Connecticut due to the heavy rainfall.

As of Monday morning, more than 300 Eversource customers in Madison were without power, or just over 3 percent.

More than 31,000 Eversource customers in Connecticut were without power as of Monday, and more than 1,500 United Illuminating customers in the state — 700 in Fairfield and 800 in Bridgeport — were also without electricity.

Madison officials said some roads were closed over the weekend due to the storm, and residents should be on the lookout for flooded roads and neighborhoods.

Additionally, residents should remember the following:

- Always treat downed wires as if they are live and dangerous– do not approach or touch them.

- Charge essential electronics, and in the event of power outages, be sure to run generators outdoors and away from windows and doors.

- Do not drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth.
