Westport Prepares To Dig out From Major Winter Storm
Heavy snow and high winds continued Monday throughout the region.
WESTPORT, CT — As Sunday's major winter storm continued on Monday, Westport prepared to dig out from under mounds of snow.
Schools were closed on Monday, as was Wesport Town Hall and several businesses.
Gov. Ned Lamont declared a State of Emergency Sunday afternoon, though power outages in Westport remained at a minimum. As of 9:30 a.m. on Monday, 20 out of 12,802 customers in Westport were without power, according to Eversource.

Statewide, more than 15,000 were without power on Monday.
In Westport, officials also declared a snow emergency, and urged residents to stay off the roads.

"Westport’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC) is activated to coordinate storm response operations," officials said in a statement. "Police, Fire, EMS, Public Works, and Human Services are fully engaged and staging personnel and equipment."
Added First Selectman Kevin Christie, "Residents should remain home throughout the duration of the storm. Keeping roads clear is critical for plowing operations and emergency response, particularly with the added concern of coastal flooding."
Critical Resident Actions:
• Remain off the roads unless absolutely necessary.
• Remove vehicles from roadways immediately.
• If vehicles must remain on the street, follow alternate side parking based on the calendar date.
• Prepare for possible power outages.
• Avoid driving through flooded coastal roadways.
• Check on elderly neighbors and those who may need assistance.
Throughout the immediate area, snow totals were in excess of a foot, according to the National Weather Service, with more snow on the way on Monday.
