Well-Known Sports Bar Chain Closes CT's Last Location

WETHERSFIELD, CT — A once-popular sports bar chain known for chicken wings, revealing uniforms for waitresses, and a name that in and of itself was a double entendre appears done in the state.

On the day of the Hooters restaurant's closure in Wethersfield, the restaurant at 1731 Berlin Turnpike posted a cryptic message on Sunday, March 1, saying "Enough said, come share some laughs."

Tuesday morning, calls to the listed phone number at the Wethersfield site were met with messages from the phone company stating "the call could not be completed."

That came amid myriad media reports about the closure of a restaurant whose parent company went from sponsoring NASCAR race teams in the 1990s to shuttering several restaurants nationally.

A sign announcing the closing was reportedly posted on the restaurant's front door following Sunday's reported last day.

Since the summer of 2024, the Wethersfield Hooters had been the state's lone remaining franchise in the notorious national chain.

That's when the Manchester Hooters on Pleasant Valley Road in Manchester shuttered for good in the Buckland Hills commercial area.

Both the Wethersfield and Manchester sites are still listed on the company website as being locations in Connecticut, however.

Last year, the Hooters company filed for bankruptcy and immediately shuttered 30 restaurants nationally during the summer, making Wethersfield's closure unsurprising news.

According to a CNN report last year, Hooters was closing stores to go from a company-owned model to a franchise-based model.

The restaurant industry, in general, has struggled in the years since the pandemic.
