25 Years: Nearly 3,000 Luminaries To Fill Windsor Town Green

WINDSOR, CT — Nearly 3,000 luminaries will illuminate the Windsor Town Green Friday evening as the community marks 25 years since the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

The town’s Walk of Light begins with an opening ceremony from 6 to 6:30 p.m. Residents may then walk among the luminaries until 9 p.m.

Each decorated paper luminary will bear the name of a person killed in the attacks. Firefighters, police officers, emergency medical personnel and local clergy are expected to take part in the ceremony.

Windsor holds the Walk of Light every five years.

Among the Connecticut victims was Windsor resident Margaret Orloske, who was working on the 96th floor of the World Trade Center’s North Tower. Additional local memorials are located at the Hayden Station Fire Company and Windsor High School, according to the Windsor Historical Society.
