Winter Storm Targets Windsor: Latest Forecast, Cancellations, How To Prepare

Find out the latest snow accumulation estimates and timeline for the upcoming major winter storm from meteorologists.

WINDSOR, CT — Town officials are reminding residents of winter parking rules and urging people to stay off the roads as a significant winter storm is expected to bring heavy snow and hazardous travel to the area.

Preparedness And Local Operations

According to Andrew Goldberg, senior communications specialist for the Town of Windsor, the town does not issue a traditional parking ban for storms, but winter parking rules are already in effect. From Nov. 15 through April 15, no vehicles are permitted on town roads between 1 a.m. and 6 a.m., or during a snowstorm that has been in progress for more than one hour. Officials said those rules will be enforced during this storm to allow plow crews to operate safely and efficiently.

Town officials also emphasized that one of the most common misconceptions during winter storms is the belief that plow trucks are not out or that roads are being ignored. Officials said plows may have already passed through an area multiple times, but continued snowfall can quickly cover roads again.

Guidance For Residents

Town officials said the single most important thing residents can do to help plow operations is to stay off the roads unless travel is absolutely necessary and to make sure all vehicles are parked completely off the roadway. Reducing traffic and removing obstacles allows crews to clear roads faster and improves safety for everyone.

Residents are asked to report hazards such as downed trees or impassable roads by calling 911 in an emergency. For non-emergency police matters, residents can call the Windsor Police Department’s non-emergency line at 860-688-5273. Non-emergency public works issues after the storm should be reported through the town’s SeeClickFix system.

National Weather Service Forecast

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch for interior Connecticut from early Sunday through Monday afternoon. Forecasters say the storm could bring heavy, plowable snow, with snowfall rates potentially exceeding one inch per hour at times, especially Sunday night. Travel is expected to be difficult due to snow-covered roads and reduced visibility.

Local TV Forecast And Timing

Local television meteorologists are largely aligned on the storm’s timing and impact.

Meteorologists at WFSB say snow is expected to begin late Sunday morning, intensify through the afternoon, and peak Sunday night into early Monday, with more than a foot of snow possible inland.

At WTNH, forecasters say snow should develop around 8 a.m. Sunday and continue into Monday morning, with roughly 12 to 15 inches of snow possible across interior Connecticut.

Meteorologists at NBC Connecticut say snow will move into the state from the south around midday Sunday, with total accumulations potentially reaching 10 to 18 inches by the time the storm tapers off Monday. NBC Connecticut says the worst travel conditions are expected Sunday night.

At FOX61, forecasters say confidence continues to increase that inland areas will see a foot or more of snow, with dangerous travel likely from Sunday afternoon through early Monday.

Town officials urged residents to plan ahead, follow winter parking rules, avoid unnecessary travel, and give plow crews the space they need to safely clear Windsor’s roads throughout the storm.
