East Windsor Police Receive Grant For New K-9

EAST WINDSOR, CT — The East Windsor Police Department is preparing to add a new patrol dog after receiving grant funding for the K-9.

Deputy Police Chief Ben Murphy told the Police Commission that the grant was awarded by the Hometown Foundation, according to minutes from the commission’s Sept. 9 meeting.

The department has also posted a special assignment seeking an officer to serve as the dog’s handler.

Police have not announced the size of the grant, when the dog is expected to arrive or how long the new K-9 and its handler will be in training. It was also not immediately clear whether the dog will expand the department’s K-9 program or replace its current police dog, Mylo.

Mylo has assisted East Windsor officers and neighboring police departments with searches and arrests. In January, the dog helped find an escaped parolee hiding in a third-floor crawl space at a South Main Street home.

The Police Commission took no separate vote on the grant during its September meeting.
