Father Charged After 1-Year-Old Son Dies In East Windsor: Police

Kevin Pell, 47, posted a $1 million bond after he was charged with risk of injury to a minor, police said.

EAST WINDSOR, CT — The father of a 1-year-old boy who died after being left in a vehicle Saturday has been charged with risk of injury to a minor, police said.

Kevin Pell, 47, was taken into custody in connection with the incident and initially held on a $1 million bond. He later posted bond, East Windsor police said in an update Monday afternoon.

Pell appeared Monday in Hartford Superior Court and is due back Sept. 10, CT Insider reported.

Police were called at 2:24 p.m. Saturday to 153 Rockville Road in Broad Brook for an unresponsive child. Pell told dispatchers he had left his son alone in a vehicle and found him blue and not breathing when he returned to check on him.

Pell was performing CPR when first responders arrived, police said. Emergency crews took over and transported the boy to Connecticut Children’s Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 3:17 p.m.

An autopsy was conducted Sunday. Investigators are working with the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner and awaiting medical records, toxicology results and other evidence, police said.

Additional charges may be sought as the investigation continues. Police said they would not release further details about the circumstances surrounding the child’s death while the criminal investigation remains active.
