Windsor Locks Fire Leaves Family Starting Over

WINDSOR LOCKS, CT — A fundraiser has been launched for a Windsor Locks family after a house fire left seven people displaced, including three children and a mother who is 30 weeks pregnant.

The Windsor Locks Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 16 Volunteer Drive at about 4:37 a.m. Saturday, June 20, according to the Windsor Locks Fire Marshal’s Office.

Firefighters arrived to find a well-involved occupied single-family home. Fire officials said the occupants were alerted by working smoke alarms and were able to safely evacuate before emergency crews arrived.

No injuries were reported.

Mutual aid was provided by the Warehouse Point Fire Department and Bradley International Airport Fire Department, according to the fire marshal’s office.

The cause and origin of the fire remain under investigation by the Windsor Locks Fire Marshal’s Office.

A GoFundMe organized by Reana Ivanov says the family lost clothing, furniture, personal belongings, household essentials and other items in the fire.

“By the grace of God, everyone survived, and for that we are incredibly thankful,” the fundraiser states. “However, they are now facing the overwhelming reality of starting over from nothing.”

The fundraiser says donations will help the family with immediate needs, including clothing, food, toiletries, diapers, baby items, temporary housing expenses, transportation and other essentials.

The family includes three children, ages 8, 6 and 3, as well as a baby boy due in August, according to the fundraiser.

Those wishing to donate clothing or essentials directly can drop items off at Living Waters Fellowship Church, 200 Spring St., Windsor Locks, according to the fundraiser.

Fire officials also reminded residents to maintain working smoke alarms on every level of the home and outside sleeping areas.
