Windsor Locks Opens Cooling Center
Residents are urged to limit outdoor activity, stay hydrated, and check on vulnerable neighbors during the heat wave.
WINDSOR LOCKS, CT β Windsor Locks officials are urging residents to take precautions as an extreme heat warning remains in effect across Connecticut.
The Windsor Locks Office of Emergency Management said daytime temperatures are expected to approach or exceed 100 degrees, with heat index values making outdoor conditions especially dangerous.
Extreme heat can quickly lead to heat-related illness, especially for older adults, young children, people with chronic medical conditions, outdoor workers and pets, according to the town.

The town said the Town Hall cooling center, along with any extended Senior Center hours, will be staffed by members of the Windsor Locks Community Emergency Response Team.
Residents are asked to monitor local weather forecasts and town communications for updates. Cooling center updates will be shared through the townβs social media platforms, Everbridge emergency notification system and local media outlets.
