Alzheimer's Association invites New Castle County residents to annual Dementia Caregiver Symposium on June 18

The Alzheimer’s Association Delaware Chapter invites dementia caregivers from New Castle County and the surrounding area to its annual educational symposium on Thursday, June 18 in Bear, Delaware. Attendees will learn from local experts on topics related to disease education and journey navigation, caregiving best practices, planning, creating meaningful moments, ensuring safety, and accessing local support services and resources.

“Caring for a person living with dementia comes with its own distinct challenges and meaningful rewards,” said Erica Holmes, Programs Manager for the Alzheimer’s Association Delaware Chapter. “It’s essential that caregivers have access to practical tools and proven strategies to support them along the way. We’re proud to bring this educational opportunity to the New Castle community, helping family caregivers feel confident in delivering quality care while also prioritizing their own health and well-being.”

• 23.3% of dementia caregivers report depression

NEW CAREGIVING DATA: New data released on April 21, 2026 shows significant changes related to dementia caregiving in the First State. According to the Alzheimer’s Association 2026 Alzheimer’s Disease Facts and Figures, in Delaware alone:

• Number of Delaware residents serving as unpaid family caregivers: 37,000 (up from 32,000)
• Total hours of unpaid care provided: 67M (up from 47M); Average hours per caregiver — US state ranking of 2nd
• Total value of unpaid care: $1.6B (up from $1.1B)
