Driver Dead After Crashing Into Semi-Trailer on US 41: FL Troopers

A Wimauma man was killed after a crash with a semi-trailer truck on U.S. 41 in Manatee County, FL Highway Patrol said.

MANATEE COUNTY, FL — A 34-year-old Wimauma man died Monday morning after the van he was driving crashed into the rear of a semi-trailer truck on U.S. 41 in Manatee County, the Florida Highway Patrol said in a news release.

The crash happened just after 6:30 a.m. at the highway’s intersection with South Dock Street.

The man was driving a 2021 Ford van south on U.S. 41 in the right lane as a 2008 Volvo semi-truck turned right from South Dock Street onto the same lane, FHP said.

As the truck accelerated south on the highway, the front of the van collided with the rear portion of the trailer.

The van’s driver suffered serious injuries and was taken to an area hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, FHP said.

The 53-year-old Naples man driving the semi-truck wasn’t injured in the crash, which is under investigation.
