DUI Driver Sentenced For Fatal Bradenton Crash: Police

BRADENTON, FL — A Bradenton man will spend decades behind bars for driving under the influence in a 2024 crash that left a woman dead, authorities said.

Cesar Navarette, arrested on multiple charges, including vehicular homicide and DUI manslaughter, was sentenced Thursday to 25 years in prison, Bradenton police said in a news release.

On the night of Nov. 2, 2024, the 27-year-old was speeding at 115 mph on Cortex Road, approaching 43rd Street W., when he crashed a Chevrolet Equinox, splitting the SUV in half, police said.

The SUV’s passenger, 37-year-old Sara-Danielle Holmes, a mother of two young children, died in the collision. Her boyfriend, who was driving, survived the crash.

Navarrete and his passenger were brought to a local hospital with serious injuries.

He showed signs of impairment and his blood alcohol concentration was .165, police said.

In addition to vehicular homicide and DUI manslaughter, Navarrete was also charged with driving under the influence and driving with a license cancelled, suspended, or revoked and causing serious bodily injury or death.

Navarrete pleaded guilty to all charges. He was sentenced to 25 years in the Department of Corrections, followed by 10 years of supervised release.

His driver's license was revoked permanently, and he must pay a combined $40,000 in fines and restitution.
