Golfers Donate More Than $19,000 to the Joshua House

Lutz’s Joshua House recently got a little help from some friends in Redington Shores.

Golfers who participated in the fourth annual Fort Knox Golf Tournament, sponsored by Fort Knox Bar on the Beach, donated $19,755 to the nonprofit that provides care for abused, abandoned and neglected children.

“We are appreciative of the tournament’s donation and thankful for the organization’s constant support,” Kathleen Walsh, executive director of Children’s Home Society of Florida, was quoted in a media release as saying. “With this donation, Children’s Home Society of Florida will continue to protect more children from the tragedies of abuse and heal the pain of those who have suffered.”

Money from the donation will be used to assist in overall support for the organization, Allison Buchanan, Joshua House spokeswoman, said.

“Joshua House will be able to continue offering motivational programs, such as Learn to Earn, a tutoring program which delegates privilege points to participating students,” she explained. “Teens’ points accumulate to grant them privileges, such as playing on a team sport, utilizing an entertainment room, spending extra time with friends from school, or attending Project 18—a program preparing older teens for their next steps by highlighting the career paths of supporters in the community.”

The Joshua House opened in 1992 in Northwest Hillsborough County. It is a program of Children’s Home Society of Florida, which serves more than 100,000 children and families throughout the state.

The tournament was held Oct. 18 at the Seminole Lake Country Club in Seminole.
