Join Orchestra Miami as we explore one of the great symphonic poems of all time, Scheherazade by Rimsky-Korsakov. This gorgeous tone poem, which tells the story of the legendary Persian queen and storyteller who narrates the frame story for The Thousand and One Nights (Arabian Nights), saving her life and others by telling King Shahryar a captivating cliffhanger story each night for 1,001 nights, eventually winning his love and ending his murderous spree.
Also on the program is the Four Walt Whitman Songs, a cycle of American art songs setting poems by Walt Whitman, comprising "Beat! Beat! Drums!," "O Captain! My Captain!," "Come Up from the Fields, Father," and "Dirge for Two Veterans,"
