Uber Courier Accused Of Stealing Cinnamon Rolls From FL Baker Detained By Border Patrol

SUNRISE, FL — An Uber courier believed to have stolen hundreds of cinnamon rolls worth thousands of dollars from a small South Florida baker was actually detained by the U.S. Border Patrol during the delivery, reports said.

Julie Pierre, 21, owner of Roll & Dough Bakery, said in a viral TikTok video that she sent more than 300 cinnamon rolls worth about $3,100 from the shared kitchen she bakes at in Sunrise to the Yellow Green Farmers Market in Hollywood on Aug. 22, but the baked goods never arrived, the Miami New Times said. She also couldn’t reach the driver.

This was a lot of money for the baker, who only started selling at the market on Aug. 1, to lose.

“This money quite literally pays for my payroll,” Pierre reportedly said in the now-deleted video. “It pays for the kitchen that we’re using [and] the bakery that we’re also in the process of building out. It pays for so much that I literally wanted to cry right there.”

Pierre went on to file a police report for the missing cinnamon rolls, according to a social media post by the bakery.

Uber also reimbursed her delivery fee for the lost order.

She later learned from the Sunrise Police Department that the Uber courier, whom she identified as Ivan, had been detained by immigration authorities while delivering the cinnamon rolls, she said in a social media post.

Sunrise police confirmed to NBC 6 South Florida that the driver was taken into custody by U.S. Border Patrol (CBP) in Hollywood during the delivery.

A CBP spokesperson told NBC 6 that the driver, Ivan Dario Rico Molano, a Colombian citizen, was stopped on Aug. 22, around 8:50 a.m., on Interstate 95 southbound near Sheridan Street "following a records check on a silver Kia Carnival."

“The registered owner was identified as an alien without legal immigration status,” the spokesperson said.

Rico Molano admitted to being in the U.S. without legal authorization, and he was arrested and brought to the Dania Beach Border Patrol Station,” reports said.

The cinnamon rolls were still inside his car, and a family member returned them to Pierre, according to Local 10. She ultimately discarded the baked goods rather than risk selling them after they had been sitting in the vehicle for so long.

In social media posts, Pierre clarified that Rico Molano hadn’t intentionally stolen the rolls and that his detention happened before she reported the missing delivery.

She also expressed sympathy for him and his family, and condemned immigration agencies like CBP and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

“I want to make one thing completely clear: I do not support ICE or any policy that separates people from their homes and families,” Pierre wrote in a post, adding, “Please do not place responsibility on me for something that had already happened and was entirely outside of my control. My heart remains with Ivan and his family. If this situation has moved or angered you, please turn those feelings into meaningful action: speak out, support affected families, and vote.”

Pierre said that she plans to use a portion of the funds raised to make up for the lost cinnamon rolls to support Rico Molano and his family during his detainment.
