Son Shot Father Outside Sarasota Lowe’s: Reports

A son faces multiple charges for shooting his father in the leg outside a Lowe's store in Sarasota, reports said.

SARASOTA, FL — A man faces multiple charges after shooting his father outside the Lowe’s home improvement store at 4020 Central Sarasota Parkway in Sarasota on Tuesday, according to multiple reports.

Kalen Claire, 25, was charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon (domestic), aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill (domestic), obstructing justice: tamper with evidence in a criminal proceeding and discharging a firearm/weapon on public/residential property, the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

Though the sheriff’s office described the shooting in a previous news release as “an isolated domestic incident,” both WWSB and WTSP identified the victim as Claire’s father.

Patch has asked SCSO to confirm whether the victim was the suspect’s father. This story will be updated when the agency responds.

The victim called 911 to report that he was shot in the leg and that the suspect had fled the area, investigators said.

The victim was brought to Sarasota Memorial Hospital to be treated for his injuries.

Deputies searched the area and found the suspect not far from the store, the sheriff’s office said.
