Civilian Detained After Breaching MacDill Air Force Base, Injuring Security Officer: Reports

TAMPA, FL — A civilian was detained Saturday after breaching the perimeter of MacDill Air Force Base, according to reports citing the 6th Air Refueling Wing Public Affairs Office.

The incident happened around 1 p.m. at the Dale Mabry Gate when a person without authorization breached the base perimeter, WFLA and Tampa Bay 28 reported.

Security responded, and the person "violently engaged" with officers before being detained, according to both news outlets.

The suspect and a security officer suffered injuries that were not considered life-threatening and were taken for medical treatment, reports said. No other injuries were reported.

Authorities did not immediately release the suspect's identity.

MacDill Air Force Base announced on social media on Saturday afternoon that the Dale Mabry Gate was closed to both inbound and outbound traffic until further notice. The Bayshore Gate remained open in both directions, and the base asked people to avoid the Dale Mabry Gate area.

The incident remains under investigation.
