This FL Bar Was Named One Of The Best Dive Bars In America

INDIAN SHORES, FL — Florida's best dive bar is an eclectic watering hole where stray cats, mismatched furniture, cheap drinks and kitschy decor all share the same space, according to a new national roundup from The Takeout.

Mahuffer's in Indian Shores was selected as Florida's pick in the new list of the best dive bars in all 50 states.

The beachside bar, located at 19201 Gulf Blvd. in Indian Shores, is known for its unconventional decor and anything-goes atmosphere. The walls and ceilings are covered with an assortment of random objects - including numerous bras and dollar bills - string lights and graffiti, while mismatched furniture is found throughout the sprawling bar.

"There's nothing like it," The Takeout wrote, describing Mahuffer's as a place where cats "hold court" amid the "trashy kitsch."

"It's so bad, it's good,” the publication said.

The Takeout also praised the bar's inexpensive, strong drinks, citing The Scoundrel's Field Guide, which gave Mahuffer's a 10 out of 10 rating and called it "perhaps the best American dive bar."

Tampa Magazine previously named Mahuffer's the area’s Best Dive Bar in both 2023 and 2024.
