Major Airline Serving FL's Largest Airports Could Liquidate: Reports

A major Florida-based airline carrier that many residents use to travel to various vacation destinations is considering liquidation, according to multiple reports.

Spirit Airlines is recovering from its second bankruptcy, but now faces new challenges due to fuel costs, according to CNBC.

Bloomberg first reported on Wednesday that the low-cost airline could liquidate in the coming days.

In a statement to ABC News, Spirit Airlines said the company "[does not] comment on market rumors and speculation."

Spirit services several Florida airports, including:

• Tampa International
• Fort Lauderdale–Hollywood International
• Miami International
• Orlando International
• Pensacola International
• Key West International
• Southwest Florida International
• Palm Beach International

Spirit flies to several vacation destinations, including Las Vegas, Cancun and Jamaica.

CNBC also reported that Spirit's low-cost competitors recently added flights to some of its primary destinations, creating additional financial implications for the airline.

The company has declared bankruptcy twice since 2024.

In April, Spirit was given WalletHub's "Best Airlines" top ranking for the third year in a row.

In 2025, USA TODAY's 10Best Readers' Choice Awards included Spirit in its Best Frequent Flier Program and Best Airline Credit Card rankings.
