Defense Contractor Expands Tampa HQ With New Lease In Westshore District

The defense company, which signed a new lease in the Westshore District, said it will invest $6 million over the next three years in Tampa.

TAMPA, FL — Defense contractor Orion Edge has signed a new 8,008-square-foot facility in Hillsborough County’s Westshore District, just months after relocating its headquarters from Denver to Florida, the Tampa Bay Economic Development Council said in a Wednesday news release.

The expanded facility at 5555 W. Waters Ave. will bring 25 new jobs and a $6 million capital investment to Tampa over the next three years. The new jobs, mainly in engineering and manufacturing, will carry an average wage of $120,000.

Orion Edge develops tactical electronic warfare systems, including products designed to disrupt adversary digital data and uncrewed systems in combat settings, according to the announcement.

“Since relocating our headquarters to Tampa, we’ve found that the region’s strong business climate and close proximity to the United States Special Operations Command have been instrumental to our continued growth and success,” John Mueller, CEO of Orion Edge, said in a statement provided in the news release. “Expanding our headquarters reinforces our investment in Tampa and positions us to continue growing our team and capabilities for years to come.”

Orion Edge decided to move from Denver to Tampa in November 2025 after attending the Special Operations Forces Industry Conference in Tampa earlier that year. The company then began working with the city of Tampa and the Tampa Bay Economic Development Council on the relocation.

“Tampa’s defense and special operations sector draws serious talent and serious investment, and Orion Edge had the vision to recognize that early,” Mayor Jane Castor said. “When a company puts down deeper roots here, it signals something real about what Tampa has to offer, and we’re glad Orion Edge is building its future with us.”

The Tampa Bay Economic Development Council said it assisted Orion Edge with workforce needs by providing demographic and market analysis data that informed the company’s decision to remain in the region and expand.

“Companies like Orion Edge create high-value engineering and manufacturing jobs that are an especially good fit for warfighters transitioning out of the military into the private sector as well as the talent we’re producing at our universities and community colleges,” Hillsborough County Commissioner Ken Hagan said.
