DOUGLAS, GA — Five people were killed Friday night in an apparent murder-suicide involving family members at a home in south Georgia.

The Douglas Police Department confirmed the deaths during a news conference Saturday, saying officers responded to a report of an active shooter at approximately 11:09 p.m. Friday at 1807 Robin Lane in the Touchton Wood neighborhood.

Police said the initial 911 call was made by one of the victims.

Officers with the Douglas Police Department and deputies from the Coffee County Sheriff's Office responded to the residence, where they discovered four adults dead inside the home.

A fifth adult was transported to Coffee Regional Medical Center, where they later died.

Based on preliminary findings, investigators believe the incident was an apparent murder-suicide involving immediate family members who lived together at the residence.

Authorities have not disclosed the identities or ages of the deceased, citing the need to notify relatives and complete investigative procedures.

Police also have not released information about the circumstances leading up to the shooting or identified which of the deceased is believed to have been responsible.

Investigators said there is no indication of an ongoing threat to the public associated with the incident.

The Douglas Police Department said the bodies will be transported to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab for autopsies as authorities continue working to determine the circumstances surrounding the deaths.

"This remains an active and ongoing investigation," the department said in its official statement Saturday. "While we recognize the community's desire for answers, certain details cannot be released at this stage."

Police emphasized that additional information will be released as it becomes available and can be shared without compromising the investigation.

The department also expressed condolences to those affected by the tragedy, asking the community to respect the privacy of the victims' families.

"We recognize the profound impact this loss has had on those closest to the victims and on our community," the statement said. "We ask everyone to respect the privacy of the families and allow them the time and space they need to grieve."
