Flash Flood Warning, Airport Delays Arise In GA Amid Storms

ATLANTA, GA — Both a flash flood warning and a ground stop were issued Tuesday as storms rolled into Atlanta.

The National Weather Service issued the warning for southeastern Cobb County and central Fulton County until 3:45 p.m.

Weather officials say a Doppler radar pinged heavy rain-producing thunderstorms in these areas, where between 1 inch and 2.5 inches of rain have already dropped.

Potentially, 1-2 additional inches of rain could fall, the NWS reported.

The Federal Aviation Administration ordered the ground stop for departures to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport until 1:45 p.m. As of around 2 p.m., a departure delay remained.

FlightAware reported departure delays of up to 2 hours due to the weather. The holdup continues to rise.

The storms could hit daily in north and central Georgia, bringing lightning, heavy rain and gusty winds.
