Gusty Winds, Flood Threat Arise In GA Amid Storms

After a wet morning commute Thursday, forecasters told Patch more storms are possibly on the horizon and could take down trees and power lines.

Patch spoke with Ryan Willis, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service's Peachtree City office.

He said the more threatening storm pattern could last through Friday in metro Atlanta and surrounding counties, with peak coverage in the afternoons and evenings.

This is due to a stationary boundary producing scattered showers and thunderstorms in Georgia.

A strong or severe storm cannot be ruled out Friday; however, Willis said forecasters are not currently predicting any widespread severe weather.

Gusty winds may become a nuisance for power lines and trees, knocking them down, Willis said.

Brief flooding remains a concern through Friday due to the slow-moving storms, he said.

Next week's rain chances through Wednesday include the probability of gusty winds and locally heavy rainfall.

Warm to hot temperatures lingering around 90 degrees in the afternoons are normal for this time of the year in Georgia, Willis said. The weather will get hotter as the days go on next week.
