Severe Storms To Blast GA With Hail, Flash Floods

The National Weather Service has issued a Level 1 marginal risk for severe storms that could bring dime-sized hail and other threats Wednesday to Georgia.

The storms are expected between 2 p.m. and 10 p.m. in north and central Georgia. There are also storm chances in south Georgia after 2 p.m.

In metro Atlanta and surrounding counties, the NWS reported possible hazards of damaging winds up to 60 mph, hail, frequent lightning and heavy rainfall that could lead to isolated flash flooding.

The storm threats will continue daily through the remainder of the week, according to the NWS.

The agency also warned of increasingly hot temperatures for Atlanta and other areas through Sunday.

Real-feel temperatures have a high chance of surpassing 95 degrees while heat index values will reach triple digits in some towns.

"Rising temperatures and increased moisture will make things feel quite toasty this week. ... Be mindful of the heat as you plan for any outdoor activities or work," the NWS said.

The Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency offers tips for combatting extreme heat.

Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 96. Northwest wind 5-10 mph.

Saturday Night: A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 2 a.m. Partly cloudy, with a low around 76.
