$1.2B In GA Tax Rebates: Here's When You Can Receive Up To $500
Officials told Patch when eligible taxpayers can expect up to $500, totaling $1.2 billion in rebates the state will return to GA residents.
ATLANTA, GA — Eligible taxpayers can receive up to $500 in tax rebates as early as the start of May, the Georgia Department of Revenue told Patch.
This is after the Georgia General Assembly gave the $1.2 billion surplus refunds the green light, and Gov. Brian Kemp signed the measure into law on March 20.
It takes six to eight weeks from the governor's signing date for the rebates to begin issuance, the Georgia Department of Revenue told Patch.

The DOR's Joseph Snowden said this means the refunds will be distributed in batches starting early May.
Per the DOR, you may be eligible to receive the refund if you:

- Filed your individual income tax return for tax year 2024 and tax year 2025 by the April 15, 2025 deadline (or by the Oct. 15, 2025, if an extension was granted);
- Had a tax liability for tax year 2024;
- Are a Georgia resident, part-year resident or nonresident.
This will be Kemp's fourth time sending tax rebates to Georgia residents. As in the past, single filers will receive $250, heads of household will receive $375 and married couples filing jointly will receive $500.
Previously, to receive the rebates, taxpayers would have had to file returns for the prior years. Allocations will be based on individual tax form instructions, either by direct deposit or mailed check.
The "where's my surplus refund" tool for 2025 will become active once distribution of the rebates begins, Snowden said.
The rebates were made possible through House Bill 1000, one of Kemp's final proposals before ending his tenure as governor.
In addition to rebates, Kemp also championed a budget that included $2,000 teacher and school staff bonuses.
House Bill 1199 made it possible for state officials to suspend the gas tax for 60 days; the bill was also signed on March 20.
