5 Charged In DeKalb Street Takeover

Police say one of the suspects crashed into a patrol car while trying to flee the scene of a street takeover.

DECATUR, GA β€” Five people are facing charges after being accused of participating in a street takeover early Sunday in the 2600 block of Bouldercrest Road.

DeKalb County Police on Monday said one of the suspects crashed into a patrol car while trying to flee the scene when officers arrived around 1:30 a.m.

Officers stopped the suspect at a nearby gas station, and the five occupants were arrested and taken to the DeKalb County Jail, police said.

Police identified the arrestees and charges as follows:

  • Isaac Ayes, 18: fleeing and eluding, hit and run, improper lane change, failure to yield to an emergency vehicle and participating in a street takeover
  • Joana Martinez, 18: participating in a street takeover
  • Camilla Marquez, 18: participating in a street takeover
  • Jhonatan Vega, 20: participating in a street takeover
  • Antonio Brazil, 17: participating in a street takeover

"The DeKalb County Police Department will continue to take enforcement action against illegal street takeovers. These activities are dangerous, unlawful and place both participants and the public at risk," police said in a news release.
