GA Boy, 8, Brings Loaded Gun To School: Sheriff

An 8-year-old Hall County boy was accused of bringing a loaded handgun to school and showing a classmate.

GAINESVILLE, GA — Authorities say they are investigating after an 8-year-old boy brought a gun to school and showed it to a classmate Thursday in Hall County.

The second-grade student at Myers Elementary School was accused of showing a handgun to the classmate around 8:15 a.m. The student then reported it to a teacher, who notified the school principal, the Hall County Sheriff's Office said.

The principal then searched the student and confiscated the handgun before alerting the school resource officer, authorities said.

The officer determined the handgun had a loaded magazine, but there was no round in the chamber, authorities said.

They added there were no signs the student intended to hurt himself or others with the gun.

Authorities did not say if charges were filed in the case.
