The person was with family and friends when he or she went into the creek and tried to swim across, police said. Recent storms raised water levels in the creek and generated rapid currents, police said.
The person never returned to the surface, police said. A multiagency search ensued but was suspended overnight after authorities were initially unsuccessful in locating the person, police said.
