The fire department is reminding people to have smoke alarms on each level of their homes and inside every bedroom.

Fire officials also shared the following tips:

  • For attic spaces that house HVAC equipment, electrical panels or solar components, talk with a qualified professional about installing a heat detector, which is designed for the temperature extremes found in those areas.
  • Test your alarms monthly and replace them every 10 years.

"Interconnected alarms throughout the home give everyone the earliest possible warning, no matter where a fire starts," fire officials said.
