Pile Fire Burning For Days In DeKalb Being Monitored

Firefighters say they are monitoring a pile fire that has been burning since May 5 in DeKalb County. Find out where.

LITHONIA, GA — A massive tree pile fire is being monitored Thursday in the 2900 block of South Stone Mountain Lithonia Road, DeKalb County Fire Rescue said.

Firefighters are tending to the pile of logs, brush and mulch around the clock, fire officials said. The fire erupted on May 5.

Crews established a containment break to hinder the blaze from spreading. Fire officials said the pile "has burned down significantly," and they are responding to hot spots.

They asked residents to take precautions if they are sensitive to poor air quality as smoke may impact local neighborhoods.

No one had been injured, and there had been no structural damage as of Thursday, fire officials said.

The department is in contact with the Environmental Protection Division and the DeKalb County Fire Marshal’s office regarding air quality, environmental concerns and fire conditions, fire officials said.

"DeKalb County Fire Rescue remains committed to protecting lives, preserving property and ensuring the safety and well-being of the community," fire officials said in a news release.
