On Sunday June 14th the Honoka'a Hongwanji Buddhist Temple and Buddhist Women’s Association will hold its annual Garage Sale and Silent Auction. It is the biggest fundraising event of the year for the Temple and the public is warmly invited to show its support through shopping. Doors to the Social Hall will be open from 10am to 2pm.
Shoppers will have an opportunity to get great deals on a variety of items including furniture, art, rummage, clothing and collectibles. Plants and baked goods are also a welcome feature of the day. Da’ Temple Basement Store, located in the lower level of the Hongwanji, will also be open for shoppers to find additional bargains.
The Sunday sale will raise funds for the Temple's various expenses. Honoka'a Hongwanji engages in numerous community programs such as “Feeding Our Keiki and Kupuna,” which has distributed over 100,000 meals and a million pounds of groceries on Fridays over the past 7 years. Its Peace Committee has been producing the Peace Day Parade and Festival since 2007. Other programs include “Fundraising for Ukraine Families,” the documentary film about the labor martyr, Katsu Goto and the annual Community Memorial Service and Bon Dance.
